The program's goal includes the reduction of infant and maternal mortality rates, and also focuses on increasing the current survival rates for treatable sicknesses.

The program's goal includes the reduction of infant and maternal mortality rates, and also focuses on increasing the current survival rates for treatable sicknesses. Currently, approximately 1 in 20 people die from treatable sicknesses due to a lack of adequate healthcare systems. The program focuses on providing a sustainable approach to delivering both the medical and eye care components of healthcare - delivering and installing medical equipment and facilities, conducting short term medical, surgical, and eye clinics, partnering with local communities to renovate healthcare facilities, constructing new facilities and providing training to increase the medical staff capacity, to assist the most deprived communities where healthcare systems are extremely inadequate and in some instances non-existent.

The Healthcare Program utilizes 4 focus areas (Infrastructure, Medical & Equipment Supplies, Staffing Support, and Eye Care) to address healthcare needs

  • Infrastructure: The area of this focus allows CLT to partner with local healthcare community leaders and local governments to work jointly in repairing and remodeling aging facilities, clinics, and hospitals. This focus area also involves expanding capacity by building new healthcare clinics, hospitals, and other facilities
  • Medical & Equipment Supplies: A large number of fatalities can be prevented if existing medical facilities have adequate medical equipment and supplies. This focus area allows CLT to work with local health authorities to identify the needs, and support efforts in purchasing and installing medical equipment.
  • Staffing Support: In Ghana, there are only 0.05 physicians per 1000 people compared to the USA where there are 2.6 physicians per 1000. The shortage of qualified medical staff is very widespread in the poorer, rural communities. CLTs plan to meet this need includes a combination of short-term mission trips, and sponsorship opportunities to train doctors locally in Ghana.
  • Eye Care: The goal of CLT Inc.’s Eye Care Program is to focus on prescribing and delivering eyeglasses, free of charge, to patients in the communities we serve, who cannot afford eye care to address sight difficulty caused by the presbyopia condition. This condition is the most common cause of vision impairment and the second most common cause of blindness in the world. CLT Inc. plans to expand this program in the future to address not only presbyopia but working with local eye doctors, also screen and conduct cataract surgeries for patients who need such intervention. To date, CLT has prescribed and distributed over 5,000 eyeglasses to patients in Ghana, free of charge.

With these focus areas, a comprehensive phased master plan solution is employed in this Program to address healthcare needs. The plan for each community is specifically tailored to their need.
